Community Spotlight: Nancy Treuber

WELCOME TO OUR COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT! In celebration of all the incredible people who help make the garden a success, we’d like to share their stories with you.

Meet Nancy Treumber (she/her), a gifted photographer and a founding member of MSCG.

Nancy got involved in June 2013 who pitched in alongside several neighbors on the block to haule trash out of the abandoned lot and represented the garden in court to make it recognized by the city as a community garden.

In fact, her favorite memory was confronting the fraudulent fake owners the Makani Brothers whose workers came into the garden in 2015 to rip apart the raised beds in the garden, and with others saved the garden that day! The voice recording of my confrontation was part of a story on community gardens by WNYC radio. You can listen to the story here

Since the start of the Fresh Food Box in 2020, Nancy has been photographing the fruits and vegetables featured in the MSCG newsletter. Some examples are included below.

We are so grateful for Nancy’s dedication to our garden and continued and graceful way that she captures the spirit of this community greenspace through volunteers and the many inhabitants and plants that grow here.
