Join us for city-wide Open Garden Day on Saturday, June 6th!
Join us on Saturday, June 6th from 11-3pm for Open Garden Day for rock + shell painting, garden signage, book talk and compost education and games!
ABOUT THE EVENT
Every year, the first weekend in June marks the official launch of the gardening season when GreenThumb hosts Open Garden Day. Community gardens across all five boroughs can elect to participate on either the Saturday or Sunday, inviting newcomers and other community members, showcasing all the garden has to offer with a variety of programming and family-friendly activities to engage attendees.
Arlene and Brenda, as Co-Chairs of the External Affairs Committee at Maple Street Community Garden, have chosen to focus on intergenerational engagement with an emphasis on our youth and elders/seniors, two demographics that have been long underrepresented at the garden. Additionally, in 2025 Arlene was selected as a member of the 2025-2026 cohort for Cornell University Community Garden Leadership Program and has prioritized succession planning as MSCG moves toward preparing the next generation.
This year, for the very first time, MSCG will be collaborating with Green Guerillas, an organization that has created, protected and supported community gardens in New York City since 1973. We will co-host a youth-led day of activities from crafting, painting, signage to compost education workshops and games as well as book talks/discussions.
