Since the founding of the garden in 2013, our gardening volunteers have been manually watering the garden and tenderly keeping plants alive in the sweltering summer heat and throughout the growing season.
Shane C. manually waters the garden to keep the garden beds happy and healthy.
In 2023, we received a generous $350,000 discretionary fund donation from Council Member Rita Joseph that underwrote the construction of a new water installation to improve garden access to water. Water would be directed into both sides of the propertyโa fountain on the park side and a spigot on the garden side.
During Open Garden Day on 6/3/23, MSCG was presented with a check by Constituent Services Director, Brian Grady on behalf of Council Member Rita Joseph who is joined in the photo (from left to right) by Nancy Hoch, Gardening Committee and External Affairs Coordinator; Arlene Roberts, FFB Program Manager; and Lory Henning, Gardening Committee Coordinator.
Construction started December 2, 2024 and was completed within two weeks. Later that summer in June 2025, a fountain was installed on the park side. A walkway from the sidewalk to the fountain was then beautifully paved that made the entrance to the park side and fountain fully accessible for all visitors.

The new water system allows our drip irrigation system to hydrate 28+ garden beds and the water fountain offers access to clean drinking water to countless community members who come through the park gates.

Because of Council member Rita Joseph's consistent support of MSCG, this upgrade is a permanent one that the entire community will be able to benefit from and enjoy for many years to come.
